Overview On GST
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services. The Goods and Service Tax Act was passed in the Parliament on 29th March 2017 and the GST tax came into effect on 1st July 2017. GST brings uniformity in taxation and has replaced many indirect taxes in India.
Goods and Service Tax is a comprehensive, destination-based tax with multi-stage levy on every value addition. Understand it with the help of following explanation.
- Destination-based:The GST tax is collected at the point of consumption irrespective of the concerned good’s place of manufacture, production or supply.
- Multi-stage:GST India is levied at each stage of the supply chain, i.e., from raw material purchase to manufacture, and sale to wholesaler, retailer and end-user.
- Value added levy:Every monetary value added to a product or service at each stage until the completion of final sale to the consumer is taxed under GST.

- NGO/Society
- Government and semi government organization
Mandatory to get GST No, If:-
If any person or business organization follow under any category than mandatory to get GST No. as per the provision of The Goods and Services Tax (GST).
- Any goods trading businesses which have a turnover of above 40 lac. (Rs 10 Lakhs for North-Eastern states, J & K, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand), and services provider have a turnover of above Rs 20 lac.
- Person who connects through e-commerce business (such as Amazon or Flipkart), should register for GST from the beginning only and Person supplying online information and database access other than a registered taxable person.
- Sales to other state (Inter State)
- If you supply goods or services in events/exhibition & you don’t have a permanent place of business, you need to get online GST Registration. The validity of causal GST Registration is 90 days.
- Any NRI person or company supplying goods or services in India need to register GST regardless of turnover.
- In addition to the above, any entity can obtain GST registration voluntarily. Earlier, any entity who obtained GST voluntarily can not surrender the registration for up to a year. However, after revisions, voluntary GST registration can be surrendered by the applicant at any time.
Documents Required for GST Registration:-
- PAN Card (Proprietor/ all Directors/ all Partners)
- Adhaar card (Proprietor/ all Directors/ all Partners)
- Mobile no./ Email Id (Proprietor/ all Directors/ all Partners)
- Photo of Proprietor/ all Directors/ all Partners
- Proof of Constitution of Business (In case of Company and LLP)
- Copy of Resolution passed by BoD/ Managing Committee and Acceptance letter (In case of Company and LLP)
- Registered office / shop proof
- Electricity Bill and NOC from property owner
- If rented than Notarized rent agreement or utility bills ( Not older than 2 months) and NOC from property owner.

Go to the GST portal.
Click on ‘Registration’ under the ‘Services’ tab and then click on ‘New registration’.
- Select ‘taxpayer’ from the drop-down menu of ‘I am a’
- Now, fill form GST REG-01 for your new registration and enter details such as the legal name of your business, state, email address, mobile number and PAN card.
- Verify your information by entering the one-time password sent to your mobile number and email ID, and click on ‘Proceed’.
- When you complete the process and move to Part B, you will receive a Temporary Reference Number (TRN), after verification. Note down this number.
Part -1
submit business information such as the name of your company, PAN, name of the state you are registering your business in and date of commencement of your business. Here, you have to mention if you have any existing registrations.
Then, submit details of up to 10 promoters or partners of your business. In case of proprietorship firm, you will have to submit the details of the proprietor. You will have to provide personal details, designation, DIN (Director Identification Number), PAN and Aadhaar number.
Next, submit the details of the person you have authorised to file GST returns.
Add the principal place of business, enter the address, official contact details and nature of possession of premises.
Add details of any additional places of business, details of goods and services to be supplied, and the bank account details of the company.
Upload the required documents based on the type of business you are registering.
Now click on ‘Save and continue’. Once you submit the application, you will need to sign it digitally.
Click on ‘Submit’ to save your details.
After submission, you will receive an Application Reference Number (ARN) via email or SMS to confirm your registration.
Part -2
Complete the OTP verification with the OTPs sent to your email id and registered mobile number.
